This refreshing premium lager is medium hopped with a maximum fresh flavour. It has a golden hue and a moderate fruity hop aroma. Balanced malt sweetness and a softer hop aftertaste provide this award winning beer with a smoother finish. In a strictly technical sense, our Pilsner is actually a New Zealand Premium Lager, as it doesn't have the higher hop bitterness on the aftertaste typical of the Pilsner style. Enjoy at 2-4°C. A Silver medal winner at this year’s NZ Brewers Guild Awards ceremony.
During the brewing process we have two additions of hops to the kettle, one at the start of the boil for bitterness, and one at the end of the boil for aroma. We use two malts, a lager malt and a specialty Munich malt from Germany, which provide colour, lifts the body and adds flavour.
Fermentation takes place at 13ºC over 5-6 days and is very strictly controlled with daily checks on temperature, gravity, taste and pH levels to ensure the finest results
Our Pilsner is matured for a minimum of two weeks to settle and clear, and is filtered through a diatomacheous earth filter to ensure the finished product is perfectly clear.

Our Pilsner is made with only natural ingredients: two hops, malt, water and yeast. It contains no additives.

Brewed as an English Best Bitter style, the combination of five malts gives Sprig & Fern's British Best the ideal balance of malt sweetness. The addition of Crystal and Caramalt provides well rounded toffee and biscuit characteristics.
