Master Brewer Tracy Banner is flying over the Tasman this week with her expert nose and palate to judge the Australian International Beer Awards in Melbourne.
The AIBA is the largest international competition of its kind, judging both draught and packaged beers. Tracy was asked to join the panel by Head Judge Warren Pawsey from Little Creatures Brewing in Victoria, Australia and will make up one of nine Kiwi judges on a 61-strong judging team.
While Sprig & Fern have entered these awards a number of times, most recently winning Silver for our Scotch and Doppelbock in 2014, this is the first time Tracy has been available to judge, having had to decline previous invitations due to work commitments.
“I’ve been judging in New Zealand for years at the annual Brewers Guild of NZ Awards and I’m excited to be involved in the judging process of the AIBA. It will be a busy three days of smelling, tasting and analysing all the beers, and I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends from the industry and seeing what Melbourne and Australia’s craft beer scene has to offer.”
The results of the competition will be revealed at the AIBA Awards in Melbourne on the 21st of May.
