MarchFest is the annual celebration of all things "craft beer" in the Top of the South. The event is held in Founders Park which not only gives a nice and relaxed atmosphere but also allows the event to be run in the most eco-friendly and family-friendly manner possible.
This year there was alot of focus on fresh or "green" hops.
The Sprig and Fern brew created especially for MarchFest was named Red Star, a green hopped pilsner. Riwaka hops from Tapawera were picked in the morning and added to the brew by lunchtime. This freshness gives a sensational grapefruit "citrus" character to the beer. Additionally, a couple more locally grown hops were added to ensure a typically crisp Pilsner finish.
