Tasting notes and dates of release...
BARREL AGED RUBY ALE 6.5% - (Silver Medal)
Release date: Thursday 18 August
Aged in a reconditioned French Oak Chardonnay barrel for 11 months, this deep ruby ale gives the following characteristics – vanilla, caramel, medium oak and toasty notes.
HARVEST PILSNER 5% - (Silver Medal)
Release date: Thursday 25 August
Freshly picked in the morning and added to the brew by lunchtime the Riwaka hops from Tapawera give sensational grapefruit “citrus” characters. We’ve added a couple more locally grown hops to ensure a typically crisp Pilsner finish. This beautiful beer is a perfect reflection of fresh Nelson hops at their best.
BUSH HONEY STRONG ALE 8.9% - (Bronze Medal)
Release date: Thursday 1 September
Brewed using a Belgium Strong Ale yeast and local Native Bush Honey (from Brightwater) this beer delivers a robust flavour, fruity aroma and palate and a slight tart aftertaste. The honey flavours are delicate and balance well with the tart derived from the Belgium Yeast. Matured in tank now for nearly 2 years
BLACK BRUGES 5.5% - (Bronze Medal)
Release date: Thursday 8 September
Paying homage to a certain sporting event embracing NZ next month, and thinking outside the square of conventional styles (as per the brief from the Brewers Guild for the NZ International Beer Awards) we have brewed Black Bruges which is a Schwarzbier style. Schwarzbier are typically German-style but we have put a spin on this and brewed a Belgium Schwarzbier. Deep ruby to nearly black - it is light to medium bodied with typical Belgian characteristics of cloves and spice. With the addition of a double gift of Native Bush Honey it balances the malt sweetness perfectly well.
